A wedding and me

Ok peeps, lets see if I can explain myself today.

On Saturday, my bro-in-law (Roger's brother) was married to a gorgeous girl. Oh man, it was so lovely. The part I seriously enjoyed was the kid-free reception. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my kids, and Evie was slightly devo not to be invited. I had forgotten how much fun it is to just be 'me' and not 'someone's mum'. Other mums, are you feeling me here? I had a total blast. A few glasses of wine, lots of dancing and giggles. It's got me thinking that I need to spend a bit more time doing things just for me - develop my brain and interests a bit and relax more, you know?

ps - here is a blog post that is really resonating with me, I looove this blog, check her out!

pps - professional photos of the lovely bride and groom can be found here (this guy was super chill and fun!)

ppps - because I think my family looks great, here's some pics of them too!

Dex at twelve months!

On Valentine's Day Dexter turned one, I know every mother says it, but the past year has gone so quickly. I can't believe that this full-of-life delicious cheeky boy is the same tiny newborn I gave birth to a year ago.

Dex is moving at a rapid pace, crawling and pushing anything as a walker. Let me tell you, this boy is persistently naughty. I'm constantly catching him in the kitchen (a no-baby zone) and he's even figured out how to open the fridge! Oh man, Dex's smile and giggles, I feel like he could light a room, it sounds corny but he brings us so much joy!!

Boy does Dex know how to make noise! Thankfully he's such a happy boy that it's rare to hear whinging and crying. We get alot of 'talking' these days, I wish I could understand what he's trying to tell me as he vigorously 'talks' and points! He says alot of 'that' and 'what's that', and his new one is 'there he is' when playing peek-a-boo. Melts my heart!

The next day I realised that tooth number eight made an arrival on his birthday (but without too much fuss thankfully). He also had a sniffly nose that day, but not much dampens his enthusiasm. I've got lots of other photos I took on Dexie's birthday, but I might chuck them in the next post...

A party for Dex

Last weekend we had a little party for Dexters' first birthday. So crazy right, time seriously flies!

We went with a bit of a robot theme - Dex loves anything with buttons! I'm proud of my cake efforts, I had alot of fun baking and decorating this one.

When Evie turned one I sewed some bunting for her, and we've used it each birthday since. Here you can see the bunting I sewed for Dex, I look forward to using it for each of his birthdays in the future!

On the shelf you can see the plates Rog brought me from Anthropologie in San Fransicso, so gorgeous.

I loved the monthly pics of Dex on display, such a lovely record of growth.

This is our weather-worn outside bunting. My sister made it a few years ago, and it really makes a party more festive.

Post-party, post-bath chillout

Evie: her ipad concentration face, so much like her dad
Dexter: still and serious, rare for this boy

Roger pulled out the SLR this morning and took these two lovely photos. They seem to capture, not only our gorgeous kids, but also some of the morning light and magic of a Sunday morning.
