The northern lights

Check out this photo:

I came across it on for me, for you (photo by James Appleton), it was taken in Iceland in 2010 & shows both the northern lights & a volcano, amazing right!

When I showed Rog & Evie we began talking about our dream holiday to Europe to see the northern lights (at this stage it is merely a dream!!). Of course you know my love affair with all things scandinavian, so I would definitely be sneaking a scandi tour into this fantasy holiday. And a trip to Europe would not be complete without a trip to Paris - ah croissants, the Louvre, the Palace of Versaille....

What is your dream holiday??

5 weeks already...

Would you believe that Dexter is five weeks old already! It's amazing how it feels like the longest & shortest time at the same time!

When Dexter was born the midwives noticed he had a tongue tie, which made breast feeding almost impossible! Within a week we took him to see an oral surgeon who snipped the offending tie & freed up Dexter's tongue. I'm pleased to report that this healed up super quick & that he now feeds like a pro.

I don't mean to brag, but I also got a baby that loves to sleep at night! In general we have a five-six hour gap between a couple of feeds allowing me to sleep for four hours in a row, bliss! On a couple of flukey nights I've even been able to sleep for seven hours in a row!!

To make up for all this night-time sleeping Dex only likes to catnap during the day & doesn't like to do that in his bed! I spend alot of my day cuddling him (which isn't all bad!) or trying to soothe him to sleep in an infant rocker. Thankfully Dex has alot of rellies happy to cuddle hin while I do housework.

We've also got a smiley boy on our hands, we got our first smile last week & now I'm seeing quite a few, completely adorable!!

If you're happy to indulge me, here are some photos of my darling boy at the one-month mark last week:

so suspicious...

Evie wanted to be part of the action & brought a series of 'funny faces' to the table!

Home front update

I've got to be the slackest blogger around! I'm hoping to get my blogging mojo back soon. I finally got Roger to show me how to get the photos off my sister's camera & onto the computer (ahem, extreme laziness!), I've now got a months worth of photos to catch you up on!!

Here's a few that Evie took (with our camera) of Dex & I at the end of February. Dexter was a couple of weeks old & is looking pretty cute (*cough* biased!). I really love these photos & wish I had taken them!

In exchange Evie let me take a couple of photos of her, here's the beautiful girl!

Dexter is now a month old already! I'll do another post in a couple of days with some up-to-date photos & a progress report!

Thanks for hanging around!

Dexter's room

I took these photos of Dexter's room the day before he was born, it must have been my nesting instinct kicking in!
I finished making this mobile the day I took these photos (good timing!). My inspiration came from here & here. I'm super happy with how it turned out! (and it's made from scraps, so was free!)

Fox print from oh hello dear, Sophie the Giraffe, the Kraken print from family tree design

Baby book (which I should start filling in!), thrifted plate, leadlight bear made by my mum (back in the day!), Scuffy the Tugboat mounted print from ledamae.

Here is the finished play-mat that I made for Dexter, I'm super happy with how it turned out! The centre fabric is a Japanese cotton fat quarter that I've had for a while & I picked up some matching cotton from Spotlight. I really enjoyed the hand quilting & want to do some more of it, which might involve buying a quilting frame.
