Wedding fever

I know everyone has been blogging about the Royal Wedding, but I'll join the throng. I don't know where I stand on the whole idea of the monarchy, but my little girl & I can't resist weddings & princesses!!

Earlier in the week we hired the DVD of Prince Frederick & Princess Mary of Denmark's wedding. So gorgeous! We dressed in our pretty 'princess' dresses and had a 'princess' afternoon tea while we watched (ie, nibbles in pretty bowls). Evie told me that she was another flowergirl, so she walked down the aisle with flowers when they did, aww! (sorry, no pics, we left the camera at the in-laws during the week!)

Last night Evie hung out with Roger's folks and watched the wedding, she was enthralled! After seeing the pics on the internet since I don't blame her - amazing! I really love her dress, choosing to have her hair down, her sister's dress, so much to love! (Meanwhile Rog & I went out to see The Girl that Kicked the Hornet's Nest, such a full-on trilogy, but awesome!)

Not a huge fan of this official picture, so formal, but at least you can see her dress & they do look very happy!

I loved reading Tom & Lorenzo's take on the whole wedding (my sister put me onto this blog, they mostly critique celebrity fashion & glee episodes, eep!!)

hi!

hi all, I'm back!
We went away for the long weekend (five whole days!) but I thought it prudent not to advertise this fact on the internet! (you know, there might be robbers just waiting to break in!)

We went to Robe with Roger's family, sooo lovely! Of course Evie was a bit nuts all weekend with so much attention and kept talking in her sleep (in our shared room), not quite so relaxing!

We did lots of reading (I read The Memory Keeper's Daughter and quite enjoyed it), drinking tea, visiting the beach, playground playing, eating Easter & birthday treats... - as you can see, quite delightful! I wish I had some lovely photos to show you, but the batteries in our camera decided not to work, so I'll see what I can get off the others for you.

Hope your Easter was lovely, relaxing & fun too!!

The big three!

Evie turns three tomorrow. In some ways she is way past ready - such a grown up, adventurous & social girl! On the other hand, I can't believe that my little baby is three! Can it really be three years since she came into the world, turned our lives upside down & stole our hearts?!?

ps - the photos shown were taken at 6 monthly intervals

pps - I won't post again until after the Easter long weekend (5 days here!), a little internet break will do me good! Hope you all have a lovely & blessed Easter weekend, and I'll see you back here soon!

Weekend wonders

I know its Wednesday, but what can I say, lazy!

Inspired by Sandra Juto, I wore my hair in braids on Sunday:

I think it looked quite awesome! and I'm excited because I have never successfully braided my own hair before.

I haven't yet mentioned that on Saturday night I saw Wicked with my mum & sis in law - amazing, I totally loved it! I also enjoyed our pre-show drink, watching everyone walk in & looking at their outfits, so nosy!

I'm just having a cuppa while Evie watches an old Sooty episode from the 70's - classic!

Mission 'Party' is complete!

Evie's 3rd birthday party was a success, and with a minimum of stress too! We scored a beautiful sunny spring morning, so the kids could run around outside.Evie played with her little friends, and there weren't any conflicts, so us parents got to relax too!!

Here's a peek at the amazing cake I made!! (Icing does hide a multitude of sins - glued together pieces of cake, resting on another cake, made taller by sponge finger biscuits because her feet stuck out the bottom!) This Belle doll didn't come with a crown, an old shiny button did the trick!

I made party bags for the kids too, sewing their initials on the front. Evie loves these little drawstring bags for her bits & pieces, so I figured the other kids would like them too! I was able to use material that I had at home already, also cost effective!

Here's a pic of the birthday girl! Rog is lighting the candles, and Evie's happy as larry! Facepaint courtesy of Auntie Megan, Jemima jumper courtesy of Auntie Emma!

Late night post

Ok, so I really should be in bed, but I'm sewing instead (well, I will be in a minute). Evie's party on the weekend has somehow snuck up & taken me by surprise. I don't have the brain power to deliver a lovely post to you today (or, probably tomorrow!). Instead I will leave you with apologies and a gorgeous image:

mmm, thrifting

I spent this morning in the city with my sisters & Evie, lovely, but exhausting!!
We hit up a couple of op-shops & I got a couple of finds for Evie.

Check out these shoes! $4, really soft leather and they match mine!

And this delightful dress! $3 and sweet embroidery.

Mojo

I'm not feeling it today, the blogging mojo.

Evie's still got her cold, so we watched the second Nanny McPhee movie together this morning (with my mum) and have just been chilling at home. I'm also working my way through a biography of Peggy Guggenheim, I didn't know anything about her, so its pretty interesting. I've also got Evie's 3rd birthday sneaking up on me so I have to get a wriggle on!! I'm off to do some birthday sewing while Evie's having quiet time...

Pretty light shade

When we fixed up Evie's new room I had a go at her light fitting. I forgot to take a before shot (duh!) so you'll have to imagine that this shade was completed beige and screwed to her ceiling - dusty & a bit gross looking. Now take a look!

Pink is Evie's favourite colour, so I searched through my stash of cotton scraps and found some lovely ones that I handstitched onto the lamp shade. I'm so happy with the results! (I'd do it slightly differently next time, it's not quite perfect, but Evie doesn't mind!) We bought the hanging thing from Ikea and are really happy with it (except that it's a little low for us grown-ups!)

I really like that Evie has something pretty & a bit different, and also free & re-used. hooray!

ps - Evie woke up with a cold this morning, boo! On the bright side it's a treat to sit here in my pj's rather than taking her to an early morning swimming lesson :)

Brogue-alicious

Here's my new winter shoes - tada!

I totally love them! I found these beauties at Witchery a couple of weeks ago on sale (hooray!). Today is the first time I've worn them (with tights & a cute cardy & dress) & they're super comfy! (I haven't even worn them in!) My local shoe-man has sold me some lovely conditioner to keep them in tip-top shape, I think they're going to get alot of wear this cooler season! (I'm a bit excited if you can't tell by all the exclamation marks!!)

A couple more pics & then I'll let you go on your merry way!

Mini Fashionista!

I love the outfits that my girl can throw together. She loves to pick each item and can, mostly, put them on by herself! (it helps the selection process that I've 'disappeared' some of her more twirly summery dresses!!)

Without knowing it she was referencing a very 90's grunge thing here for our shopping (well, window shopping) trip last week!
